Learning

How children learn here

Planned, purposeful play, guided by the Early Years Foundation Stage and organised so every child can play and learn at their own level.

The framework

Guided by the EYFS

Everything we provide for children's development and learning is guided by the Early Years Foundation Stage, and we work to the government guidelines for the foundation stage with a broad and balanced curriculum.

Activities are organised so every child can play and learn at their own level, and some are child-initiated. In practice that means the day bends to your child, not the other way round.

Four ideas behind everything

The EYFS's four themes, in plain words

A Unique Child

Your child is their own person, so that is where we start.

Positive Relationships

Children learn best alongside adults they know and trust.

Enabling Environments

Spaces and routines arranged to invite exploring.

Learning and Development

Children grow at their own pace, each in their own way.

That is the thinking behind our play.

What the play covers

Six areas of learning

All of it delivered through planned, purposeful play, with a balance of adult-led and child-initiated activities.

  1. 01Personal, social and emotional development
  2. 02Communication and language, and literacy
  3. 03Mathematics
  4. 04Understanding of the world
  5. 05Physical development
  6. 06Expressive arts and design

Behind all six sits one person who knows your child best.

One familiar face

A key person who knows them

Every child has a named key person who observes their learning and plans around their needs and interests.

Home diaries and regular observation give parents the basis for consultations through the year, so you always know how your child is getting on.
